2 macaws missing from Sedgwick County Zoo

? Two scarlet macaws are missing from the Sedgwick County Zoo, and zoo officials think they were stolen.

It appears the birds, named Mac and Cheese, were taken after a break-in sometime between 11 p.m. Thursday and 3:30 a.m. Friday, curator of birds Joe Barkowski said.

Cheese has been at the zoo since 1986, and Mac arrived in 2002. Both birds are at least 20 years old, Barkowski said.

Scarlet macaws can be sold as pets for as much as $2,000, but Barkowski said they require special care and attention.
