License plates to help breast cancer research

Gov. Kathleen Sebelius has signed into law a bill that would provide a new license plate for breast cancer research and outreach.

Effective Jan. 1, the plates can be purchased for a royalty fee ranging from $25 to $100. The fee will go to the Kansas University Cancer Center to support a statewide coordinator for the Midwest Cancer Alliance.

The measure was sponsored by state Sen. Barbara Allen, R-Overland Park, herself a breast cancer survivor.
