Boyda reports $140K in initial fundraising
U.S. Rep. Nancy Boyda raised $140,000 in her first three months in office, according to campaign finance statements.
Boyda, a Democrat from Topeka, represents the 2nd Congressional District, which includes west Lawrence. The reporting period covered January through March.
Meanwhile, Jim Ryun, a five-term Republican whom Boyda defeated last year, has reported total contributions of $273,000, which includes $101,000 from his previous campaign.
Ryun wants to win back the seat in 2008. He will face opposition in the Republican Party primary.
Earlier this month, State Treasurer Lynn Jenkins, a Republican from Topeka, announced she would run. She hasn’t reported raising any funds yet for the contest.
Several other Republicans also have said they are thinking about running.
