ECKAN to skip April food distribution

The East Central Kansas Economic Opportunity Corporation will not distribute commodity food items in any of its counties during April because no food products are available.

However, Penn House, 1025 Pa., will have a distribution from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, and Ballard Center, 708 Elm, will have a distribution from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Thursday.

ECKAN assists low-income families in Anderson, Coffey, Douglas, Franklin, Lyon, Miami and Osage counties.

“There has been a slight decline in the amount of commodities that we get,” said Jim Baze, commodity director for ECKAN. “We will get another delivery in May, and we’ll be able to do May and June.”
