Police investigate pit bull attack on boy

? Lansing Police are investigating a Thursday afternoon incident in which a dog attacked a 4-year-old boy outside an apartment building.

Police said the boy was playing outside Lansing Heights, near Main and West Mary Street, when a pit bull came out from a nearby apartment and chased him. It did not appear the dog bit the boy, but he did suffer scratches about the head, officers said.

The boy’s parents took him to the hospital. Police said several citations will be issued to the dog’s owner.

Lansing does not outlaw pit bulls, but the city does have a vicious dog ordinance, and owners of vicious dogs are required to maintain an insurance policy.
