Midland Railway reports vandalism, theft

? The Franklin County Sheriff’s Department is investigating theft and vandalism last week at the Midland Railway’s location at Norwood.

Thieves took $5,285 worth of items and caused another $1,400 in damage, Undersheriff Steve Lunger said.

Tim DeMott, head of security for the railway, reported the theft and damage to the sheriff’s office Saturday. Lunger said it occurred sometime between Sept. 20 and Saturday.

Items taken included a generator, tools, padlocks, log chains, batteries, extension cord and several railroad tools. Windows and a brake assembly were damaged.

The railroad cars that were damaged were at Norwood, which is halfway between Baldwin and Ottawa in the 2800 block of Stafford Road, which is just into Franklin County.
