Memorial service planned for ‘Baby Jane’ today

? A memorial service is planned for today for an infant girl whose body was pulled by a dog from a creek about six months ago.

Annabelle, the infant who was initially dubbed Baby Jane, was buried Sept. 5 in Wichita after pathologists failed to determine whether the child was alive or dead at birth.

The public memorial is planned for 7 p.m. today in the Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home’s chapel in Hutchinson.

“Things like this are very difficult for the community,” the funeral home’s managing director, Joe Mayne, said. “It gives a chance to come together as a group … and pay their respects.”

The community donated nearly $2,000, which will be used to pay for the baby’s headstone. Any leftover money will be donated to the local Birthrite and Open Door Pregnancy Care Center charities, Bernard said.

The body was discovered by a man outside the rural Reno County home he shared with his girlfriend, Kimberly Farley, and her daughter, Sarah Farley. Investigators later determined Sarah Farley, 17, was the baby’s mother.

Two weeks ago police charged Sarah Farley with three counts of unlawful voluntary sexual relations.

Kimberly Farley was charged with aiding a felon.

The 17-year-old father, whose name has not been released, has not been charged with a crime. Reno County Dist. Atty. Keith Schroeder has said unlike Kimberly and Sarah Farley, the boy has been cooperative with authorities.
