Abortion doctor behind anti-Kline mailing

Kline spokesperson calls mailing ‘backdoor assault’

October 25, 2006

— Critical campaign mailings calling Atty. Gen. Phill Kline "Snoop Dog" are from a group linked to Dr. George Tiller, a Wichita physician whose clinic specializes in late-term abortions.

The group is called Kansans for Consumer Privacy Protection

"This is evidence that George Tiller is beginning his backdoor assault on the attorney general," Kline spokeswoman Sherriene Jones said.

Kansans for Consumer Privacy Protection has the same office address as ProKanDo, a political action committee started and financed by Tiller.

Kline, a conservative Republican, faces Democrat Paul Morrison, the Johnson County district attorney, in a fierce election campaign.

Shortly after taking office in 2003, Kline, an ardent opponent of abortion, launched a secret inquisition into two abortion clinics, including one run by Tiller.

Kline sought the medical records of 90 women and girls, saying he was investigating allegations of child rape and illegal late-term abortions.

The clinics challenged subpoenas for the medical records, saying Kline was on a fishing expedition. Morrison has said the inquisition was part of Kline's political agenda and an "abuse of authority."

In recent days, Kansans for Consumer Privacy Protection have mailed campaign pieces critical of Kline, saying that while "Snoop Dog Kline" was prying into medical records, crime was on the rise in Kansas.

The group has not registered with the Kansas Governmental Ethics Commission. It doesn't have to because it is not specifically advocating voting for or against a candidate.

The address on the group's mailout is 6505 E. Central No. 106 in Wichita.

But the group filed as a corporation with the Kansas Secretary of State's office on Aug. 28 with the address of 555 N. Woodlawn St., Suite 215, Wichita, Kan. That is the same address as on ProKanDo's registration as a political action committee, according to state officials.

Morrison's campaign said it had no dealings with Kansans for Consumer Privacy Protection.

"I'm not familiar with the group," Morrison spokesman Mark Simpson said. "But a lot of people have problems with Phill Kline's serious invasion of privacy."

Tiller's PAC, ProKanDo, was founded in 2002 to help elect pro-choice candidates.

Julie Burkhart, the chair of ProKanDo, did not immediately return a phone call for comment. On ProKanDo's Web site, Burkhart says "Kansas is now on the frontlines in the national battle for women's rights. Kansas Atty. Gen. Phill Kline is on a crusade to glorify his personal political agenda by trampling on the rights of women."

To Tychoman: God creates new life through parents

To carolannfugate: Are you talking about Terri Schiavo? Actually, Terri was not technically dead nor was she dying until they removed the feeding tube for 13 days. Yes, she had brain damage, but she had intact brain stem function. The only thing they had to take her off of was the feeding tube inserted into her stomach. Her husband fought to keep her alive until he got the money from the malpractice lawsuit. He even claimed that the money was for Terri's future expenses. Michael Schiavo was the selfish one. The first time anyone heard the story that Terri said she would not want to be kept alive in a vegetative state was after he won the lawsuit. Seems like he wanted her dead at that point so he could enjoy the $800,000.

Good Point Agnostik. There was such a fuss about Dr Kavorkian a few years ago and he only assisted by request. Society wanted him stopped. Then there are those who fought the shiva case wanting a technically dead woman kept alive selfishly. So I asked these people which is it?

In response to "If you are so against abortion, DON'T GET ONE."

I am also against child abuse, rape, murder, domestic violence, etc. I do not do any of those things and I speak out against them too. So, according to you I should just not do those things and not advocate for those vicitims either. I am guessing it is okay with you that I protest against child abuse, rape, domestic violence, murder, etc. So, what makes abortion different? When an innocent child is being killed simply because of her location in the womb, I have a constitutional right to assemble and speak out against it. The atrocities of this world would prefer to go on unnoticed and unprotested so they can get by with it. Have you ever watched abortions in progress? Can you still defend it after watching them?

I do not believe that we have to postpone someone's inevitable death with heroic measures. There are moral and ethical guidelines which doctors follow when it comes to these matters such as do not resusitate directives, removing ventilators when brain death occurs, etc. I have personal experience with this when my spouse at the age of 43 became very sick because of infections. I okayed putting him on a ventilator hoping that with supportive measures he would get over his illness in a few weeks. He also had a feeding tube through his nose and was on high power medicines. It came to the point that I okayed one last experimental treatment - giving him nitric oxide. If he did not begin to recover after that, I was going to let nature take its course. However, he did improve and left the hospital 9 weeks later.

LifeSupport says:

"God is the creator of all life. There is a big difference between a life ending naturally and one ending prematurely through a violent act like abortion."

Okay... turn the tables here...

If you honestly believe that which you typed above... that it is against God's will to end a life prematurely... do you also believe it is against God's will to postpone death prematurely, via feeding tubes, breathing machines, heart-starting devices, and other techological means of keeping the human body going?

Thanks

Funny, lifesupport, I thought that PARENTS were what created life.

A lot of the most vehement anti-abortionists seem to be men. 1) You're MEN, abortion does not apply to you and you should have no say in it unless you're the father of the baby. 2). YOU'RE MEN. If you are so against abortion, DON'T GET ONE.

Hear hear, xeno.

God is the creator of all life. There is a big difference between a life ending naturally and one ending prematurely through a violent act like abortion. You may think of it as medical or surgical procedure, but abortion is violence towards pre-born babies. Abortion texts will tell you that it is accomplished by dismemberment of the fetus with obstetrical instruments, a suction machine, extraction of the brain to collapse the head, or toxic chemicals. A miscarriage is a natural event. As Creator, God chose that a baby should be created within that womb. Therefore, it is He who should decide when that life should end.

To logicsoundo4: When a woman is pregnant, she is already a mother not a future mother. She is a mother to that living human being in her uterus. That fetus exists. You can see her on an ultrasound or feel him kick after the 15th week. Babies do not just magically appear all living and human at birth out of nowhere. They are that way from conception through several stages of development. The right to life should not be usurped by another's right to privacy.

Good for Tiller. Doing his best to rid our state of a dangerous religious demagogue.

Conservative Republicans need to shut up and get out of public policy; they have failed miserably for years, and should accept the oblivion they so richly deserve.

0

smitty 7 years, 5 months ago

How many free will abortions does it take to fund a $300k publicity campaign or two or more and still leave Tiller with a viable income? Kansans are funding Tiller's in large numbers.

Seems to me the people of Kansas are represented by proxy through Tiller's political actions.

I try to be an objective guy, and unless you're ultra-conclusory (Baille:)) with incomplete analysis, I think you can see that. But, I have had professional/social encounters with Tiller and I have found him to be a weird man. Politics aside, he is just weird. The first time I met him he was wearing full makeup and looked like he had plastic surgery done that was intended to make him look feminine.

"There is no right to choose to contract the killing of children. That fantasy will soon be destroyed."

Yes, I agree that the idea of victory in Iraq is a fantasy at this point. Also, it is absolutely outrageous how the current administration sends our nation's youth off to die.

Abortion, however, is a medical procedure and, as such, is at the discretion of the patient--in this case, the future mother. It makes no sense to assign rights to a non-existent being that directly usurp the rights of a living person.

0

Porter 7 years, 5 months ago

I'm tellin' you. You're story will change when your sister, wife, or girlfriend is raped. And don't come back with the "only xx% of abortions are due to rape or incest". It's just as easy to say that only 24% of rapes are reported. I would be surprised if 10% of incest cases were reported. Otherwise, why would Phill Kline be ruffling through all those medical records, hmmm?

Thank you, Holygrailale, for pointing out that "God's Will" isn't there to protect these snowflakes either. Kind of tough to explain why God is a pro-abortionist baby-killer, isn't it?

We must also make certain that the Thorougly Modern Dr. Mengele gets PAID!

I wonder how many dead babies it take to pay for a new Cadillac?

Godot 7 years, 5 months ago

Why must you protect the "right to choose" when you have so many other options available that were not available when Roe v Wade was decided?

Back then, birth control pills were hard to get. And they were unreliable. Condoms were contraband.

Today, birth control is available for the asking, for free, from Planned Parenthood, or at a small cost from your health insurance, without social recrimination. Condoms can be bought in the ladies' restroom. Sex education is everywhere. There is not a 10 year old in the US who does not know what causes pregnancy and how to avoid it.

That being the case, why, oh, why, do we need, not only unfettered access, but sanctioned and protected access, to abortion by underage teens in the US?

Considering the emphasis on sex education in the US education system, if any teen becomes pregnant without planning, I consider that to be malpractice on the part of the education system.\

We do not need abortion, we need malpractice claims against sex education practitioners. Let the girls have the babies, and let the teachers who failed to teach them not to get pregnant pay to raise them.

Put the blame where the blame belongs!

SettingTheRecordStraight

"Kansas has been shamed into becoming the 3rd trimester abortion capital of the world." ---- Setting the Record Straight.

You have figures for that assertion???

=======================================

more reposts:

A little less than half of all terminated pregnancies occur without the intervention of any medical personnel.

I conclude therefore that, since the thesis of the pro-life crowd is that each and every egg / sperm is a potential child, God is the ultimate abortionist.

=======================================

The vast majority of abortions are performed BEFORE the fetus becomes viable. 88% occur before week 13.

Less than one (1) % occur after 22 weeks, the medical definition of the beginning of Extremely Premature.

Show me an OB/GYN program that is surviving 13 weekers and I'll show you a worldwide news story.

Only 50% of 22-weekers survive AT EXCELLENT UNITS. Virtually none survive before 22 weeks. Those that do survive at 22-weeks have significant problems.

http://www.nlm.nih.gov/cgi/medlineplus/leavemedplus.pl?theURL=http%3A%2F%2Fwww%2Ekff%2Eorg%2Fwomenshealth%2Fupload%2FAbortion%2Din%2Dthe%2DU%2DS%2DFact%2DSheet%2Epdf

You don't acknowledge that pregnancies terminate all the time without the intervention of any abortionist yet you make believe that all conceptions are destined to become "little children" because it's your fantasy.

To acknowledge reality would mean that you would have to realize that God is the ultimate abortionist and the procedure you are railing against is most regularly performed by your Christian God.

Only 2 more weeks till Morrison wins the election.

"Morrison isn't going to allow illegal abortions ..." -Baille

I hope you're right. Maybe Morrison will shut Tiller down.

If Morrison is elected, he needs to enforce Kansas law. Kansas law does not allow a 3rd trimester abortion unless the health of the mother is in serious jeopardy. Tiller reads the law to mean serious MENTAL health or FINANCIAL health or whatever other type of health he wants it to mean.

George Tiller has made a mockery of the law and because of it, Kansas has been shamed into becoming the 3rd trimester abortion capital of the world.

Well, if the attorney general wouldn't waste taxpayer dollars conducting a privacy-usurping witchhunt into Tiller's clinic, maybe he wouldn't be so vehement about unseating our facist of an AG.

I have a big post card from "Republican State Leadership Committeee" ripping Morrison. What's the difference between this and that.

What the hell is Tiller thinking? Assuming he wants to help Morrison, the best way to do that is for him to shut up and not send out a bunch of mailings. I am not sure why he would anyway. Morrison isn't going to allow illegal abortions nor ignore the plight of survivors of sexual abuse.

Topeka wins! That is hilarious.

It's politics. I hope no one gets their feelings hurt.

I wonder if Tiller took Marion Sydney Lynn's online course on how to send political postcards. Apparently so. Tiller didn't do a very good job of being anonymous.

dirkleisure 7 years, 5 months ago

Translation of BOE's comment - using the word "conservative" to describe PK is left-wing bias. It isn't left-wing bias when PK uses it to describe himself, only when a reporter uses it.

Also, using the phrase "ardent opponent of abortion" is left-wing bias. It isn't left-wing bias when PK uses it to describe himself, only when a reporter uses it.

The rest of the "really, really, really, subtle" bias is when they allow Morrison's campaign to offer comment, which is unfair, and when they report what the clinics and Morrison have to say about Kline's investigation, which is unfair.

That about sum it up?

0

BOE 7 years, 5 months ago

Boy this piece is just dripping with left-wing bias, so much so, it literally inundates every paragraph.

Of course it's not obvious, but in fact it's really, really, really, subtle,... but by golly it's there.

jayhawks71, You don't understand the issue then.

To everyone else: It was only a matter of time before third-timester abortionist George Tiller poored his blood money into this race.

Independent Expenditures like this are all legal and part of how our system works, of course, but Tiller's involvement is disgusting.

How much do you think George Tiller will spend to protect his multi-million dollar abortion business? Thousands? Tens of thousands? How about hundreds of thousands??? He spent almost $300,000 in 2002 against Phill Kline and I'm guessing he'll spend more this time around.
