Wichita aviation school gets $2 million grant
Wichita ? Sedgwick County officials have received another $2 million grant to help build a planned aviation technical school at Jabara Airport.
Gov. Kathleen Sebelius announced Thursday that the grant will be used to build and equip the $40 million project.
On, Monday the county confirmed it had received a different $2 million grant, with the money coming from the economic development arm of the U.S. Department of Commerce. The county also has secured $2.5 million from the private sector and $500,000 more from the federal government.
Money for the state grant comes from the Workforce Solutions Fund, part of Kansas’ workforce development system.
County commission Chairman Ben Sciortino praised the state and federal support for the project.
“This is proving the county’s vision,” he said.
