Board of Regents seeks new general counsel

The Kansas Board of Regents is looking for a new general counsel following the departure of attorney Mary Prewitt.

Prewitt, who had served as general counsel since 2000, left her post in October to become state program manager for the Humane Society of the United States.

“It was an opportunity that I just couldn’t pass up,” Prewitt said.

The Regents will begin screening applications Dec. 6 and will continue until the position is filled. Robin Kempf is serving as interim general counsel.

The general counsel is the primary legal adviser to the Board of Regents and staff. The general counsel’s duties include giving legal advice to the board and staff, preparing legal documents, and participating in the drafting and review of policies, rules and regulations.
