A little more than half of Kansas' registered voters cast ballots in the general election, officials said Thursday.
Of the 1,663,017 registered voters, 860,378 voted, according to unofficial totals from Tuesday's election compiled by the secretary of state's office. That's a 51.7 percent turnout.
This was slightly higher than Secretary of State Ron Thornburgh's earlier projection.
At 44.6 percent, Douglas County, however, was below the statewide turnout rate.
