Wichita to host Bangladeshi convention
Wichita ? The 2007 annual convention of the Federation of Bangladeshi Associations in North America is heading to Wichita next fall, with more than 5,000 visitors expected to attend.
The event, from Aug. 31 to Sept. 2, is expected to generate more than $500,000. Organizers said it also could lead to more trade between Kansas and Bangladesh and more Bangladeshi families moving into the Wichita area. Bangladesh is in southern Asia near Burma and India.
Wichita, which has the smallest Bangladeshi community of any city to bid for the convention, was chosen over Dallas, Chicago, Houston and Detroit.
This year’s convention in Atlanta drew 12,000 people.
