Major winter storm barrels through state

? The first day of spring in Nebraska might very well look like the middle of winter.

A major storm was forecast to move across the Great Plains on Sunday night and today, leaving a foot or more of snow in many areas of the state.

Winter storm warnings were posted from east to west in Nebraska.

Today is the first day of spring, marking the official end of a winter that had been warm and mild throughout the state. But a slow-moving storm moving out of the Rocky Mountains served notice that Nebraskans might not get off so easy.

Eight to 15 inches of snow were expected in the Panhandle. Total accumulations of 10 to 14 inches were forecast for the eastern part of the state.

Precipitation began Saturday and continued Sunday.
