Baby’s body found in yard
Willowbrook ? The body of a newborn was found near the back door of a home Tuesday in a rural area of Reno County.
Detectives think a dog or other animal discovered the baby girl in a nearby creek and dragged her remains to the backyard, where the homeowner found the body Tuesday. Investigators are calling the girl “Baby Jane.”
Reno County Sheriff Randy Henderson said detectives haven’t been able to determine whether the baby was alive or dead when she was born. An approximate time of death also was not immediately determined.
However, Henderson confirmed that the baby’s birth was recent and that the infant appeared to be full-term and fully developed.
“We have to narrow the scope of the investigation,” Henderson said. “We know where the baby ended up; now we need to know where it started.”
As part of the investigation, authorities were seeking more information about a full-size maroon station wagon that was seen in the area around the time the infant’s remains were found. They also were questioning social service workers and hospital officials for information about recent pregnancies.
