Lecompton is gearing up for a city election next month, but only two candidates have filed to fill three positions on the City Council.

Ed Smith was the only one of three incumbent council members who filed for re-election. Neither Jennifer Jones nor Chuck Folks filed for re-election.

Bruce S. Liese is the only other person to file. The candidate filing deadline was Jan. 24.

The ballot for the April 4 general election will have three places for write-in candidates in addition to the names of Smith and Liese, according to the Douglas County Clerk’s Office.

If you are not registered to vote, you have until March 20 to register at the clerk’s office or at several other locations throughout the county.
