Two more charged in slaying of pregnant teen

? Two more men were charged Wednesday with capital murder and kidnapping in the killing of a pregnant 14-year-old Wichita girl.

Elgin R.J. Robinson, alleged in a protection order to be the father of the unborn child, is among three men now charged in the strangulation death of Chelsea Brooks sometime between June 9 and 10. The girl’s body was found partially buried near a wheat field in Butler County on June 15.

Robinson, 20, also was charged with three counts of sexual intercourse with a child under age 14, and faces one count of violating a protection from abuse order issued in February.

Theodore Burnett, 49, was charged Wednesday with capital murder and kidnapping in connection with an alleged agreement to kill the girl.

Both men, who appeared in court via video conference from the jail, are being held on $1 million bond. Their preliminary hearing was set for July 6.

Sedgwick County Dist. Atty. Nola Foulston said prosecutors had not filed a notice to seek the death penalty because they first are required to consider all the aggravating and mitigating circumstances of the crime before making that decision.

On Tuesday, Everett Le Gentry, 17, was charged in juvenile court with capital murder and kidnapping charges in connection with the case. Prosecutors have filed a motion to try him as an adult, and a hearing on that request is set for Aug. 3.

Terri Brooks, the mother of the girl who was due to give birth July 4, filed for a protective order against one of the men in February on behalf of her daughter. In her petition, Terri Brooks wrote that the man had been in a sexual relationship with her minor daughter for at least eight months. She also said he was psychologically manipulating her to keep the identity of her baby’s father secret.

Foulston told reporters after the hearing that it’s clear state law does not allow a homicide charge for the death of the unborn child.
