Salina ? The gun of a Salina police officer who was investigating an apparent burglary at a business discharged accidentally, striking a young man who was inside the building, Police Chief Jim Hill said.

Thomas E. Hewitt, 19, was kept overnight at a local hospital for treatment of a leg wound after the incident Friday night. Arrested Saturday on charges of burglary, theft and drug possession, Hewitt was released on bond.

Officer Jamie Grover, 25, was placed on paid administrative leave while the department investigates the incident, Hill said. She has been with the department since early last year.
