Prison officials investigate death

? Three days before his birthday, a Lansing Correctional Facility inmate was mortally injured, prison officials said Friday.

James Allen Corley, 35, was found injured in a minimum security area of the northeast Kansas prison Wednesday and sent to Overland Park Regional Medical Center for surgery, the prison said in a release. He died late Thursday.

Another unnamed inmate was put in solitary confinement while prison officials and the Kansas Department of Corrections investigate the incident.

Corley, who was to turn 36 today, was serving a sentence from Dickinson County on drug manufacture and paraphernalia charges. He had been at the prison since March 2005.
