NORTON ? A fire destroyed two buildings and jeopardized another in downtown Norton on Monday, and investigators were uncertain about the cause of the blaze.

Norton Fire Chief Mitch Jones said the fire was an accident and he had an idea of what happened, but he refused to elaborate.

The fire leveled an antique shop that sold on consignment and an indoor archery range, and threatened a third building housing Pure Prairie Natural Foods.

Jones said it could be a while before a value is put on the losses, because it will be difficult to track down individual owners who had goods at the antique shop. About 30 insurance companies have already been contacted about losses.
