Wichita State gets $7.5 million in gifts

Two Wichita State University graduates have donated a total of about $7.5 million in gifts to the school.

The Wichita State Foundation recently received nearly $4 million from the estate of John Buck, co-owner of the former Buck’s Department Store, and $3.5 million from the estate of former state amateur golf champion Dorothy Evans, the school announced Thursday. Both gifts are among the 10 largest individual gifts ever given to the university.

Most of Buck’s gift will be distributed for student scholarships among the College of Education, the Department of Aerospace Engineering, the College of Fine Arts and the W. Frank Barton School of Business.

Evans, the Women’s Amateur Golf champion in 1934 and 1935, donated her gift to the general scholarship fund, which is open to all students.
