4th death blamed on heat

? An Iola man is the latest victim of the heat wave that gripped Kansas this week, bringing to four the number of confirmed heat-related deaths in the state.

Iola police confirmed Friday that a 69-year-old man found Thursday died of heat-related causes. Iola Police Chief Walt Kuykendall said the man died sometime between Monday afternoon and when his body was discovered early Thursday morning.

Elsewhere in the state, heat may have played a role in the death of a Wichita man who was taken to Wesley Medical Center Thursday evening. An autopsy was pending, hospital spokeswoman Helen Thomas said.

Coffeyville police were also investigating Friday whether heat was responsible for the death of a man who was found slumped over in his vehicle Thursday afternoon. Police identified him as Randy Redman, 47, of Coffeyville.

Authorities have said triple-digit temperatures caused the deaths of two Wichita men, one who died Wednesday and the other Thursday, along with a Coffeyville man who died Monday and the Iola man on Thursday.
