Prescription drug fraud lands woman in hospital
Lawrence Police escorted a woman to Lawrence Memorial Hospital for a mental health screening Monday after she was caught trying to fraudulently claim prescription drugs, police said.
The woman attempted to obtain the drugs from Round Corner Drugstore, 801 Mass., after calling and requesting mood-elevating drugs, claiming that she worked for a doctor’s office.
According to police, the woman was apparently linked to four other cases of fraudulent drug prescriptions, which all occurred in the past two weeks.
On two occasions, the woman did obtain the drugs from a local drugstore using fake doctors’ names to claim the prescriptions, according to police.
The woman was not arrested, but she was voluntarily committed at a regional hospital. Criminal charges could be pending.
