House approves bills aimed at protecting children
TOPEKA ? Bills aimed at protecting children in cars and girls from sexual predators were approved today by the Kansas House.
The House approved 90-29 a measure requiring children to ride in age appropriate child seats, and 79-40 legislation that prohibits children from being left alone in vehicles.
Both of these bills, HB 2611 and HB 2732, will now go to the Senate for consideration.
The House also gave preliminary approval on a voice vote to a bill that would prohibit any person under 16 from getting married. A person who is 16 or 17 could get married if they have consent from a parent, guardian or a judge if there are no parents or legal guardians. The bill is HB 2541.
Kansas law currently doesn’t have a minimum marriage age law.
