Flags at half-staff today to honor King
All Kansas and U.S. flags will be at half-staff today in honor of Coretta Scott King.
King, the wife of civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr., died Jan. 30. Her burial is planned for today.
Gov. Kathleen Sebelius ordered all state flags to be lowered to half-staff until nightfall tonight, according to flag protocol. President Bush gave a similar order for all U.S. flags as well.
In a statement, Sebelius urged residents to honor King’s commitment to civil rights for all citizens by lowering their flags.
“She leaves a lasting legacy to our nation,” Sebelius said.
