Highlights from the Kansas Legislature
Highlights of Tuesday’s activities at the Kansas Legislature:
¢ The Senate Judiciary Committee began hearings on proposals to limit state and local governments’ ability to force sales for private economic development projects when the landowner doesn’t want to sell.
¢ The House Judiciary Committee considers a bill to require those arrested for a felony to give a DNA sample that will be submitted to the Kansas Bureau of Investigation.
Also:
¢ Former House Speaker Robin Jennison of Healy kicked off his campaign for the Republican gubernatorial nomination.
¢ The Senate Federal and State Affairs heard arguments to study the idea of consolidating Johnson and Wyandotte counties, but the bill appears to have little traction.
¢ House Democrats outlined a “Partnership with Families” that includes proposals to make it a misdemeanor to sell violent or sexually explicit video games to minors and to ban the sale of flavored cigarettes.
