KCC to play host to energy forum

The Kansas Corporation Commission on Wednesday will convene an all-day open forum aimed at increasing the state’s energy efficiency and conservation efforts.

Much of the discussion is expected to focus on expanding the roles and obligations of the state’s utility companies. The utilities are regulated monopolies.

Historically, companies have been allowed to raise their rates to pay for infrastructure improvements needed to keep pace with demand. The KCC is looking for ways to add efficiency and conservation to the rate negotiation process.

“This is a very high priority for us,” said KCC spokeswoman Rosemary Foreman.

Open to the public, the forum begins at 8:30 a.m. at the Kansas History Museum, 6425 SW Sixth Ave., Topeka.
