A 3-year-old boy drowned Friday in a backyard swimming pool in Shawnee, police said.

The child, whose name wasn’t released, wasn’t breathing when he was found, according to police. It was not known how long the toddler had been underwater. The boy was pronounced dead at an Overland Park hospital.
