Kansas University alumni Tom Marcellino and Zach Marten and several of their friends watched from Campanile Hill Saturday as KU kicker Scott Webb's overtime game-winning field goal sailed through the uprights.
"We're bowl-bound now," said Marcellino, who traveled from Scottsdale, Ariz., for the 24-21 Jayhawk comeback victory over Iowa State.
The important sixth victory of the season makes the Jayhawks eligible for post-season play.
"KU football is back. It's about time," said Mark Davenport, a 1989 KU graduate from Topeka.
Jubilant students deposited a Memorial Stadium goal post into Potter Lake for the third time this season as a way to celebrate KU's likely bowl appearance and comeback win.
Two Iowa State fans said KU played a great game and deserved to win, but they were disappointed the Big 12 North titled eluded their Cyclones again.
"My thinking is our guys just didn't want to go down and play Texas. Now, we'll just settle for a bowl game," said Elaine Nugent, of Council Bluffs, Iowa, who attended Saturday's game with her brother, Mike Messerly.
Many Jayhawk fans said they hoped Saturday's win was another step in rebuilding the football program.
"It'd be great if we became a dual-sport school. We'd be back to our glory days," said Keaton Krell, a KU junior from Lyndon.

Ummm….what glory days of football? Going to 2 bowl games in the 1990s doesn't count as glory.
