Advertising campaign encourages recycling

Commercials, print ads and posters this week feature prominent Kansans recycling to kick off a state public awareness campaign.

Former Kansas Gov. Mike Hayden, broadcaster Bill Kurtis, former Kansas State basketball All-American Kendra Wecker, former Kansas University basketball All-American Wayne Simien and crop artist Stan Herd are in initial ads for “Get Caught Recycling.”

They will run in Kansas media this week. The goal is to reinforce and encourage recycling behavior, said Bill Bider, director of Kansas Department of Health and Environment’s bureau of waste management.

According to the KDHE, the campaign will later feature state spelling bee champions and brothers Kent and Scott Toland of Iola; president and CEO of Wolf Creek Generating Station Rick Muench; Fiesta Mexicana Queen Melissa Cooper of Topeka; and others.
