Dole awarded French Legion of Honor
Kansan and former U.S. Sen. Bob Dole on Thursday was awarded the French Legion of Honor for his service in Europe during World War II.
Jean-David Levitte, French ambassador to the United States, presented the medal to Dole on behalf of the French government, led by President Jacques Chirac.
While presenting the award in Washington, D.C., Levitte praised Dole for his service in Italy during the war and said that he helped liberate all of Europe. He also lauded Dole for his work at ending the war in Bosnia 10 years ago.
