State tax revenue up in October

? October tax revenue was approximately $30 million more than expected, signaling a strengthening business and work climate, a leading official said Tuesday.

“It reflects a growing economy,” Budget Director Duane Goossen said.

Since the fiscal year started July 1, higher-than-expected personal and corporate income taxes have produced about $100 million more than predicted. Sales taxes have remained within estimates.

“More people are working, more people are making money and more corporations are operating profitably,” Goossen said.

State budget experts will meet Thursday to revise revenue figures for the Legislature to work with in January 2006.

So far this fiscal year, the state has taken in about $1.6 billion, $100 million more than the $1.5 billion estimate for this period.
