Sebelius announces Ag board appointments

Topeka – Two western Kansas farmers have been appointed to the State Board of Agriculture, joining two other members who were reappointed Friday by Gov. Kathleen Sebelius.

Jay Garetson, of Copeland, and Kenneth R. Palmgren, of Edson, are the newest members of the advisory board, which makes recommendations to the governor on legislative initiatives and proposed rules.

Garetson is owner and general manager of Providence Transport, and he is a founding member of Northwest Cotton Growers Coop Gin, which started the first cotton gin in southwest Kansas.

Palmgren, owner and operator of V&K Farms, was a member of the Kansas Wheat Commission from 1997 to 2002.

Current members Ann Peuser, of Baldwin, and Roland Rhodes, of Gardner, were named to new four-year terms on the board.
