Highlights from the Kansas Legislature
Highlights of Tuesday’s activities at the Kansas Legislature:
— Some 800 Hispanics gathered for a rally to promote the state’s immigrant tuition law and other issues and to demonstrate the unity and growing strength of immigrants statewide.
— A bill designed to keep businesses from paying workers’ compensation benefits to employees for drug or alcohol-related accidents won Senate approval and headed to Gov. Kathleen Sebelius.
Also:
— The Senate Public Health and Welfare Committee endorsed a bill pushed by anti-abortion groups to impose tougher regulations on abortion clinics.
— A bill allowing Sedgwick County officials to move ahead with building a new arena in downtown Wichita won House approval and went to the governor.
