Police: Man faces fourth drunken-driving charge

A man free on bond in a drunken-driving case was arrested after he ran over a friend outside a bar while driving under the influence, police said.

Joseph Michael Henning, 22, of Lenexa, was charged Tuesday as a fourth-time drunken driver. He was being held in Johnson County jail on $200,000 bond.

Police said Henning was leaving the bar early Tuesday when he ran over his friend, apparently accidentally, and then kept driving to his apartment.

After he was arrested, Henning kicked the police van’s door, which flew open and struck a Lenexa police officer, police said.

Henning was charged in Johnson County District Court with felony aggravated battery and driving under the influence of alcohol. He also was charged with misdemeanor battery on a law enforcement officer, failure to stop after an injury accident, driving with a suspended license and not having proof of insurance.

The injured friend’s condition was not available.

Incoming college leader suffers heart attack

The president of Dawson Community College in Glendive was in intensive care Wednesday after suffering a heart attack a day earlier.

Terry Hetrick was stricken Tuesday morning while at work in his office, said Justin Cross, dean of administrative services at the two-year college.

Hetrick was in a cardiac intensive care unit at Billings Deaconess Hospital and was listed in serious condition, hospital spokeswoman Gwen Gatzemeier said.

Hetrick will complete his sixth year at Dawson Community College on June 30 and is leaving the school to become president of Independence Community College in Kansas on July 1, Cross said.
