Sebelius to sign bill for school funding increase
Topeka ? Gov. Kathleen Sebelius will sign into law legislation increasing school funding by $148.4 million today in Topeka.
The measure was approved earlier this month by the Legislature in a special session under pressure from the Kansas Supreme Court.
Sebelius will hold bill-signing ceremonies at North High School in Wichita and then Meadows Elementary in Topeka.
Combined with a $142 million increase adopted earlier, schools will receive $290 million in new funding for the coming school year.
The Kansas Supreme Court has said the increase is an interim step toward achieving a constitutional finance system that provides adequate funding that is distributed fairly.
