Gene Budig named adviser to College Board

Former Kansas University Chancellor Gene Budig has a new job to add to his resume.

Last month Budig was named senior presidential adviser and College Board professor in New York. The College Board is a nonprofit membership association that offers college-level assessment tests, among them the SAT and Advanced Placement program.

“It is an exciting opportunity to serve,” Budig said in a telephone interview Monday. “I will be involved in the direction of a number of projects for the College Board.”

Budig said one of his more exciting duties would be working directly with the Center for Innovative Thought, a group of national leaders who explore education issues and make recommendations to American education leaders.

Budig was KU chancellor from 1981 to 1994. He previously served as president of Illinois State University and West Virginia University. After leaving KU, Budig was president of Major League Baseball’s American League for six years.

Budig lives in Princeton, N.J., and has been on the Princeton University faculty. He said he expected to teach a course at Princeton next fall.
