Pictures left in stolen truck lead to arrest

? When Galena police took a stolen pickup truck back to its owner, he told them there were items in it that didn’t belong to him – including a digital camera.

Photos discovered on the camera led to the arrest of the man who apparently took them of himself, said Galena Police Chief Troy Newman.

Joseph Tyndall, 20, was charged Monday with two counts of felony burglary, felony and misdemeanor theft and possession of drug paraphernalia.

The charges include allegations of theft from the motel where Tyndall was staying, as well as the theft on Nov. 28 of the pickup belonging to Melvin Hendryx. The truck was recovered last Thursday in Joplin, Mo.

Newman said that he took the camera found in Hendryx’s truck to the Galena Motel, which had reported the theft of room keys. The owner said the man in the picture was staying in Room 203.

Police found the motel keys, more than 100 keys to vehicles, several articles of jewelry, and large boxes of chips and dip in the room, Newman said. He said they also found substances alleged to be methamphetamine, marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

Tyndall’s address is listed as Room 203 at the Galena Motel.
