Newman University president resigns

? Citing a wish to pursue other opportunities, Aidan O. Dunleavy has resigned his post as Newman University president.

The resignation, effective at the end of the school year, comes as Dunleavy completes his five-year commitment to the private Roman Catholic school he has led since 2000.

Dunleavy said in a written statement that in his last months at the university he will focus on its library and on the development of its advancement programs.

“At this juncture, and with our children now graduated from college, my wife and I are anxious to consider other opportunities,” Dunleavy said in a statement.

Marstall said a federal lawsuit filed against Newman in September by Marla Sexson, former dean of admissions, played no role in the resignation.
