KANSAS CITY, KAN. General Motors Corp.'s Fairfax assembly plant hit a major milestone Friday, producing its 10 millionth vehicle.
Three employees, each with at least 50 of years experience at the plant, drove the vehicle, a black 2006 Malibu Maxx, off the line. Fairfax also builds the Chevrolet Malibu.
The plant, which opened in 1946 and moved into a new building in 1987, currently employees about 2,800 people and produces more than 200,000 vehicles a year.
The work force is expected to increase by 280 next year, when the plant begins building the Saturn Aura, a mid-size sedan.
