Guilty plea entered in patient abuse case

? A former nursing home aide has been convicted of dropping a patient and failing to report what happened, Kansas Atty. Gen. Phill Kline said Monday.

Marlise S. Shaw, 41, has pleaded guilty to one felony count of mistreatment of a dependent adult and one count of misdemeanor mistreatment of a dependent adult.

She is accused of dropping the patient in January 2004 while she was moving him from his wheelchair to his bed. The fall fractured the patient’s hip. But prosecutors said Shaw didn’t report what had happened, delaying the diagnosis of the fracture by two weeks.

Shaw lost her job, and her certified nurses aide credentials were revoked.

Sentencing is set for Sept. 20 in Sedgwick County District Court.
