Jennings Enrollment is way down at the Jennings school district, but officials are still determined to keep the only school in the western Kansas district open.
About 30 students are attending the school, down by roughly half since last year. Also, Supt. Emery Hart expects just two dozen children in the district next year, half of them in the secondary grades.
Still, Hart said, the school board wants to keep the school open. He said that probably would require sending older students to secondary schools elsewhere.
"We'll keep the doors open as long as the students are getting a good education. When that stops, we shut the doors," said Hart, who is also superintendent at Utica.
