Wichita residents urged to plan city’s future
Wichita ? Community leaders here have given residents a tall order: Plan Wichita’s future.
Eight public meetings are being held starting Monday to come up with a long-term plan for the city, including job creation, improved education, racial harmony, stable families and marriages, and downtown development.
“I don’t want them sitting around saying, ‘Nobody asked me,”‘ said Suzie Ahlstrand, vice president of the Wichita Area Chamber of Commerce, who is working on the project full-time. “We’re asking.”
Residents have already gotten involved in the project, called “Visioneering Wichita.” They took part in focus groups that put together the list of issues the plan will tackle.
Organizers say they’ll present a draft of their plan Nov. 22 and 23. Implementation of a finalized plan is slated for January.
