St. Louis ? A pregnant woman headed to her baby shower died after a car accident Saturday. Her baby did not survive, and her new husband was injured in the crash.

Erin Hughes, 23, had just married Thursday and was eight months pregnant, according to KSDK-TV in St. Louis. Doctors attempted to deliver the baby by Cesarean section following the crash.

She and her husband, John Hughes, 25, of Overland Park, Kan., were looking forward to starting their new life together, friends said.

They were traveling to the St. Louis area for their baby shower when the accident occurred near the community of Foristell.
