Lawrence filmmaker honored by governor

Lawrence filmmaker Kevin Willmott and his crew were honored today by Gov. Kathleen Sebelius as he prepared to take his movie “C.S.A. The Confederate States of America” to the Sundance Film Festival.

Willmott, an assistant professor in the film department at Kansas University, said his film portrayal of life had the South won the war could only have been made in Kansas.

“The film follows the abolitionist legacy that founded this state,” Willmott said.

Sebelius said she wanted Kansans to recognize Willmott before he became “an international star” at Sundance, a prestigious festival that will be held next week in Park City, Utah.
