Kansas mostly compliant with standards
Topeka ? Kansas has improved its readiness to respond to a terrorist attack, according to a report released on Tuesday.
Kansas is one of eight states to meet seven of 10 standards judged by Trust for America’s Health, a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization.
Last year, Kansas met only three of the standards.
“Kansas is much more prepared for a bioterrorism attack today than we were a year ago, and considerably more prepared for terrorism or natural disasters than we were prior to 9-11,” said Roderick Bremby, secretary of the Kansas Department of Health and Environment.
Kansas was determined to be strong or much improved in having sufficient laboratories, a disease tracking system, legal authority to quarantine, increased flu vaccination rates and a pandemic flu plan, and coordinating preparedness plans with local agencies.
