A Lawrence woman and her elderly male passenger were both killed in a one-vehicle crash Friday morning on a rural Jefferson County road.

Stephanie S. Collins, 42, Lawrence, and her passenger, Michael W. Meyer, 79, Winchester, were riding in a pickup truck that crashed about 9:10 a.m. Friday on Wellman Road, near 46th Street. Neither was wearing a seatbelt, according to the Kansas Highway Patrol.

Highway Patrol Trooper Daniel McCollum said the pickup truck, which was traveling south, went off the west side the road. The driver overcorrected and veered off the east side of the road into a deep ditch with a box culvert, McCollum said.
