Nine new human cases of West Nile confirmed

? State health officials Friday confirmed nine new cases of West Nile virus, bringing the total in Kansas this year to 35.

Those cases, confirmed by the Kansas Department of Health and Environment, were a 40-year-old in Lane County, a 54-year-old in Clark County, a 74-year-old in Ford County, a 69-year-old in Clay County, a 67-year-old in Marshall County, a 40-year-old and a 20-year-old in Saline County and an 80-year-old and 72-year-old in Sedgwick County.

Each of the cases involved a person with meningitis or encephalitis brought on by West Nile.
