Topeka urologist, missing for 2 days, found dead
Topeka ? A Topeka urologist who had been missing for more than two days was found dead Tuesday in his pickup truck on a rural road.
A volunteer firefighter found Dr. Christopher Balcezak’s pickup parked in a grove of trees, between the Kansas River and the Kansas Museum of History, just northwest of the city limits. The discovery occurred about 1:30 p.m., said Martha Lutz, a spokeswoman for the Shawnee County Sheriff’s Department.
Lutz said there were no external wounds on the 34-year-old doctor’s body.
“It doesn’t appear to be foul play,” Lutz said, adding that law enforcement officials will not know the cause of death until an autopsy is performed, probably in a few days.
Family members said Balcezak left his southwest Shawnee County home at 6 a.m. Sunday to get an early start on rounds at two regional hospitals. He planned to return home by 11 a.m., they said.
Balcezak received his undergraduate degree at Notre Dame, and graduated from medical school at the University of Texas at Houston.
He completed his residency and an internship at the University of Kansas Hospital.
