Deputy wreck case referred to state

? A fatal crash involving a Barton County deputy has been referred to the state Attorney General’s Office for further investigation and possible criminal charges.

Brian Frenzl, 40, of Great Bend, was killed Sept. 1 when his motorcycle slammed into the left front fender of Deputy David Paden’s patrol car. The deputy was trying to execute a U-turn on U.S. Highway 281.

That accident is one of four involving Paden in the past two years. Two of the accidents ended with fatalities.

The case initially was referred to county prosecutors by Sheriff Buck Causey.
