Olathe: Identity thief receives prison sentence

A former records clerk has been sentenced to 2 1/2 years in prison for stealing personal information from hospital patients and using that information to make online purchases.

Johnson County District Judge James Franklin Davis ordered the prison sentence Thursday for Charleeta D. Fuller after denying her request for probation.

Fuller, 34, of Kansas City, Mo., pleaded guilty in April in Johnson County District Court to three felony counts of identity theft.

She was employed by a company that contracted with area health providers before the scheme was uncovered in December.

Fuller opened online credit accounts with area retailers using Social Security numbers taken from patients’ records.

Assistant Dist. Atty. John Cowles objected to probation, noting that Fuller was already on probation for forgery at the time of the identity thefts.
